Prayers, Prayers and more Prayers...

The current statistic is that 1 in every 100 babies will be born with a congenital heart defect.

Charlotte is 1 in 100.
Talia is 1 in 100.
Logan is 1 in 100.
Hope is 1 in 100.
Joshua is 1 in 100.
Luke was 1 in 100.
Ewan was 1 in 100.

It’s scary to think
just how many 1 in 100’s I’ve encountered in the last 4 months.

Unfortunately today, with a heavy heart, I add to the list.

Caleb is 1 in 100.

I’m writing this message today to get the prayer chains going. A co-worker of mine learned yesterday that his 3 week old son has coarctation (narrowing) of the aortic artery. He was initially admitted to the hospital here in Sioux Falls, and subsequently Care Flighted to Children’s in Omaha where he is having surgery this afternoon. Charlotte’s surgeon, Dr. Hammel, is doing the operation and I truly believe that Caleb is in the best hands possible.

PLEASE SEND EXTRA BIG HEART PRAYERS THEIR DIRECTION!

God, be with baby Caleb and his family today and in the days to come.
Keep him wrapped safely in your arms and give him strength in his recovery.

  2. Add Hope to the 1 in 100 list too. I will add Caleb to my prayer list. Sadly...it gets longer every day.

  3. 1 in 100 is a number that I never knew until Ben we found out about Ben's CoA.

We will say some prayers for Caleb.

  4. It is sad and frustrating at the same time that not many know about the 1 in 100 statistic until it happens to them.

Thank you for spreading awareness for Congenital Heart Defects.
